Facebook doesn't want you to see this picture
This is Tsesung Kyab, a Tibetan protester who set himself on fire and died yesterday. More than 100 Tibetans have set themselves on fire over the last two years. Images of their protest have been shared all over the web, some more graphic than others, in an attempt to bring the reality of what is happening inside Tibet to the world. For some reason, Facebook yesterday singled out Tsesung Kyab...

These ‘Chinese friends’, as they are known, are especially interested in Tibetans who may have been talking...

The 19th UN-sanctioned ‘World Press Freedom Day’ comes with news of the Chinese government’s latest strategy aimed at silencing protesters in Tibet. Chinese authorities have released a directive which states that officials will ‘severely crack down’ on anyone discovered to be involved with protests of any kind. This is the final message of Sonam and Choephak Kyap who set themselves on fire and died last week in the name of Tibetan freedom. Discovered two days after their self-immolation, their recording is now being shared among Tibetans. This is the latest example of Tibetans passing on information about protests in spite of China’s attempts to control communications across the country. They...

London Book Fair complying with Chinese...
Various human rights and Tibet groups respond to the London Book Fair’s decision  on the gaurdian: It is extremely disappointing to learn that the organisers of the London Book Fair and the British Council have apparently acquiesced to pressure from the Chinese authorities and failed to invite dissident authors and poets to the event at Earls Court next week (Report, 21 March). The London...

Last night (28 March, 2012) there was yet another self-immolation. A 20-year-old monk named Sherab set himself on fire in Ngaba County, Eastern Tibet and died at the scene. Sherab had been studying Tibetan Buddhist Philosophy at the Kirti monastery since October. Sherab is the second young person to self-immolate in Chara Township, this month. On 5 March an 18-year-old named Dorjee also set...
